In recent years, the development momentum of tourism in china is rapid,at the same time, the key point of urbanization is trying to change from speed to quality. With tourism move in the direction towards broaden and further, the comprehensive effect of tourism beyond the general industry has been paid attention to,and the development of tourism is regarded as an industrial path to promote urbanization. Therefore, attention is paid to the effect of the development of tourism on the urbanization.Yet the existing literature is more focused on the macro level to analyze the effect of tourism development on.urbanization, the regional difference of the effect of tourism development on urbanization needs to be studied urgently.Based on the above background, this paper centered around "tourism development"and"urbanization",focusing study on"whether tourism development has an effect on urbanization","if there is an effect, how to measure"and"whether there is a regional difference in the effect".This paper combined with some theoretical basis such as industrial structure evolution theory,Garden Cities, sustainable development theory and so on,adopted the provincial panel data of 30 provinces(cities, districts)in mainland China from 2005 to 2016,used the methods of literature,multi-indicator comprehensive evaluation and spatial panel econometric model to carry out qualitativeand quantitative analysis, mainly including the four parts:first, literature review and the definition of core concepts;second, evaluation of the level of urbanization and tourism;third, measure the effect of tourism development on urbanization from the national level;fourth, based on the regional perspective, analysis of the effect of tourism development on urbanization is conducted in three regions, which are the eastern part,The central and western part of China. The research shows that:Firstly, the tourism development level and urbanization level in China show the trend of"Steady-Rise",while the spatial difference pattern of"step decline”from the East region to the West region appears.Secondly, there is an obvious positive spatial autocorrelation between the urbanization level of even province in China, and this spatial autocorrelation is increasing year by year, which means an error occurs in the results obtained by the traditional econometric analysis without considering the spatial effects.Thirdly,at the national level, every 1%increase in the level of tourism development promotes urbanization by 0.080%;however,every 1%increase in tourism development in neighboring provinces will have an inhibiting effect on their urbanization by 0.124%.Fourthly,there are regional differences in the effect of tourism development on urbanization. In the eastern region, there is no significant effect of tourism development on urbanization. In the central region, the development of tourism has direct positive effect and total effect on urbanization, and there is no obvious spatial spillover effect. In the western region, there are positive and negative spatial spillover effects of tourism development on urbanization, but there is no obvious total effect.Specifically, the direct effect coefficient in the central region is greater than that in the western region, but the significance level in the central region is smaller than that in the western region.
