Technological innovation is the fundamental driving force for industrial upgrading.Under the new international division of labor in the global value chain,industrial upgrading in emerging countries like China is considered to be a process of climbing from the low end to the high end of the global value chain.However,it ignores the essence of industrial upgrading which is to obtain higher added value,and thus improve its profitability.Therefore,how to improve value-added capacity through technological innovation to achieve industrial upgrading has become an urgent issue facing China's economic transformation and changing the economic development model.In view of the above problems,based on the 2009-2014 World Input-Output Table and other data,this paper attempts to study the relationship between technological innovation and industrial upgrading from the perspective of value-added capabilities.The main results obtained are as follows:First,technological innovation has a positive role in promoting value-added capabilities.This shows that China's manufacturing industry is upgrading its industry through technological innovation to enhance its value-added capabilities,thus revealing a new mechanism for technological innovation to promote industrial upgrading.Second,there is a U-type relationship between industrial structure upgrading and value-added capabilities,which means that enterprises can achieve industrial upgrading by increasing knowledge in the industry.In the initial stage of industrial upgrading,the value added is gradually decreasing,but after reaching a certain level,it will positively promote the value-added ability and promote industrial upgrading.Finally,there is no significant relationship between industrial upgrading and the position of the industrial chain.In the long run,although the position of the industrial chain has not changed,However,by increasing the knowledge intensity in the chain of the industry chain,it can also increase the value-added ability and realize the industrial upgrading.This discovery is different from the mainstream view,which has important implications for the industrial transformation and upgrading of China's manufacturing industry.The research results of this paper emphasize the importance of technological innovation to improve the value-added capability of China's manufacturing industry in industrial upgrading.It is of great theoretical significance and reality significance for Chinese enterprises to choose their own industrial upgrading path in the process of climbing along the global value chain.
