As a technology and knowledge intensive industry, modern service industry has the characteristics of low marginal cost, high added value and low energy consumption. It meets the needs of China's economic reform and development. It is also a key industry for China to optimize its service industry structure and enhance the competitiveness of service trade.Accelerating the development of modern service trade will help China to face the competition of global service trade, improve its position in the value chain of world trade, effectively avoid the "comparative advantage trap",accelerate the development of trade in services with high quality and quantity, and then make greater contribution to economic growth. The research on the competitiveness of China's modern service trade will help us to find out the shortcomings of China's modern service trade, provide reference for its improvement and acceleration of development. This paper first analyzes the development status of China's modern service trade, then use metrics to quantify the competitiveness of modern service trade. The research results show that China's modern service trade has developed. In recent years, exports have increased rapidly, the import and export surplus has expanded. However, its still remain low in the overall service trade, the synergy of trade development in modern service industries is not reasonable enough and there is a clear bias. The proportion of its exports in the international market is far lower than that of developed countries such as Britain and the United States, and the target market for exports is relatively simple. The measurement results show that the competitiveness of China's modern service industry has been enhanced, the professionalization of various industries in international intra-industry trade has become higher and higher, the overall modern service industry has risen in the international division of labor value chain. However,China's modern service trade still has no competitive advantage in international comparison, and lacks a modern service industry with strong competitiveness.China only shows certain competitive advantages in construction services, telecommunications, computer and information services and other commercial services trade, but the advantages are not very obvious, while finance, insurance, the use of intellectual property rights and personal entertainment services trade lack competitiveness.Among them, the competitiveness of insurance services is the weakest. Then, based on the diamond model established by Michael Porter,an American economist, this paper analyses the factors affecting the competitiveness of modern service trade from five perspectives, and concretely analyses the mechanism of 11 factors affecting modern service trade.Stepwise regression analysis, cointegration analysis and impulse response analysis are used to analyze these factors from the perspectives of long-term equilibrium and short-term fluctuation. The empirical results show that technological progress, human capital, the openness of modern service industry, trade in goods, traditional service trade, government tax and the level of utilizing foreign capital have significant effects on the competitiveness of modern service trade. However, the impact of domestic demand, urbanization level and the scale of modern service industry has been excluded in the regression, which may be related to the representativeness of the indicators selected by the author and the actual situation of the development of these factors in China. Finally, based on the analysis of the previous paper, some policy recommendations are put forward.Specifically,it includes:Improving the overall national technological innovation ability and cultivate high-quality professional talents;accelerating the opening up,guiding the inflow of high-quality foreign capital, and making rational and effective use of foreign capital;strengthening the driving role of trade in goods and traditional services to promote coordinated development;optimizing tax policy and promoting internal optimization of industry;paying attention to the promotion of domestic demand and exploring the potential demand;promoting the construction of urbanization level and improve the industrial clustering effects.
