The migrant workers have played the irreplaceable roles in the process of China’s reform and opening-up and industrialization since 1978.With the steady advancement of urbanization,the issues of migrant workers’ citizenization has increasingly become a prominent socio-economic problem,which has a direct bearing on the overall situation of China’s stable development,and solving the migrant workers’ citizenization problems has become the primary task to realize the strategy of urbanization.Nowadays,Internet and information technology have been widespread popularized and migrant workers group is gradually using self-media to build an online relationship network.Social resources embedded in the network not only provides support to help migrant workers integrate to the city life,but also affects their citizenization willingness.Therefore,it is of great practical significance to study the influence of social capital from the self-media on citizenization willingness of migrant workers.There are mainly four parts of this study:the first part is sorting out the existing study of social networks,social capital and the citizenization willingness,especially the research on the migrant workers’ citizenization under the influence of self-media.The study found that through the use of social media such as QQ,WeChat,migrant workers can significantly reduce the time for job searching,increase employment income,enhance economic and social status,and effectively enhance the ability and willingness of citizenization.The second part is mainly about explanatory variables analysis.Through literature research,this paper divides social capital into "integrated social capital" and "bridging social capital",and measures it through network scale and network density two levels,which were represented by the number of friends and the using frequency in QQ and WeChat respectively.The third part mainly analyzes the explained variables.Describing the characteristics of migrant workers’ willingness to citizenize based on survey data and explaining the selection basis of the citizenship willingness measurement index.In the fourth part,through the descriptive statistics,the paper analyzes the use of social media in migrant workers,conduct empirical research by the mlogit regression model,and make comparative demonstrations from generation and gender differences.Based on the empirical analysis of the impact of the migrant workers’citizenization willingness through social capital embedded in self-media,this paper concludes the following three conclusions:First,in the process of migrant workers’integration into the city,from the overall perspective of migrant workers,integrated social capital hinder the promotion of the citizenization willingness and the bridging social capital promotes it,which is consistent with the related research results.Second,in network density respect,integrated social capital and bridging social capital are differences on the influence of the two generations of migrant workers’ citizenship willingness,the willingness of the new generation migrant workers is related to bridging social capital while the first generation is related to integrated social capital.Although integrated social capital would hinder the willingness to citizenize,for the first generation of migrant workers,integrated social capital is still the main reliance to achieve citizenization for their ability to develop bridging social capital is weak.Therefore the scale of integrated social capital has a negative impact on the first generation migrant workers to enhance their willingness to citizenize,while the density has a positive impact.Third,the emergence of the self-media makes up women’s social shortcomings even help women surpass men in terms of scale and density of bridging social capital.However,from the perspective of citizenization willingness,women are more dependent on integrated social capital while men are more dependent on bridging social capital because due to the natural gender differences. |
