The germanium industry started relatively late in manufacturing industry. The domestic germanium enterprises have always been the raw material suppliers for the internationally renowned germanium enterprises, while the domestic high value-added germanium products can only be imported from abroad. In order to change this situation, germanium enterprises in China can only rely on promoting their innovation ability independently to develop high value-added germanium products. Therefore, the development and research of high value-added germanium products is the key to enhance the core competitiveness of germanium enterprises in China. The development of high value-added germanium products shows not only creativity and innovation, but also complexity, integration and high risk. These essential characteristics are subject to project time, project cost and project quality constraints.Which have highlighted the importance of reasonably scientific project management.Based on the theory of project management, combined with practice, taking Z company and its National Sci-tech Plan Project" Development&research of 4 inch Ge polished wafer"as examples.Firstly, this paper analyzes the current situation project management and shortcomings in R&D of Z company, from the aspects of project process, human resources, schedule, quality, cost and risk. Then it further studies the application of project management in the Project "Development&research of 4 inch Ge polished wafer",analyzing, summarizing and exploring the successful experiences which Z company used in the project through the aspects of human resources, project risk, project quality, project cost, project control management and application for intellectual property, which could be used by Z company for references and learning in its management of new product development&research.
