With the acceleration of economic globalization and urbanization, urban agglomerations have become the most dynamic and potential regions, playing a strategic point, growth pole and the role of the core node with the convergence and diffusion function of various kinds of factors in the future. As the urban agglomeration's scale expands, the economy develops rapidly and the population concentrates, both the increase of land demand and the limitation of land supplication would make more prominent contradiction between human and land in urban agglomerations. At the same time, the much starker choices-and graver consequences-in planning outline proposes to construct the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei,the Yangtze River Delta and the Pearl River Delta to be three world-class urban agglomerations, which would lead to more conflicts between the economic development and land use in some way.Land intensive utilization could promote economic competitiveness by taking advantage of element agglomeration and optimizing land use structure and so on.Therefore,it's quite necessary to explore the interaction between economic competitiveness and land intensive utilization, which would decide whether urban agglomeration could realize sustainable development when intensive land use is becoming a trend in the future.Based on the correlation theory of urban competitiveness and land intensive utilization, the paper chose Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei area, the Yangtze River Delta and the Pearl River Delta as study regions and use entropy weight method to calculate the level of economic competitiveness and land intensive utilization. And meanwhile the paper analyzed their spatial distribution characteristics by conducting GIS and GeoDa softwares and explored the interaction between economic competitiveness and land intensive utilization through the coupling coordination degree model, the impulse response and variance decomposition model with the combination of qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis. Some conclusions could be drawn as follows:(1)The levels of economic competitiveness and land intensive utilization get improved with different degrees from 2007 to 2013.The growth of economic competitiveness presents such a rule: the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region ranks first, while the Yangtze River Delta ranks last;the growth of land intensive utilization presents such a rule: Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region ranks first and meanwhile the Yangtze river delta and the Pearl River Delta keep the same.(2)With regard to space distribution features, the level of economic competitiveness and land intensive utilization in three urban agglomerations is characterized by an agglomeration state of different attributes, presenting a weak negative space correlation. That is to say,the areas with high and low levels of economic competitiveness and land intensive utilization are mixed in spatial distribution from the integral space scale;and meanwhile from the local space scale, there are high-value centers and low-value centers of economic competitiveness and land intensive utilization during three urban agglomerations.(3)From the aspect of coupling coordination, barely coordination and primary coordination are two main types. The number of cities in barely coordination level keeps reducing and that in primary coordination level keep increasing in three urban agglomerations. From the aspect of spatial evolution characteristics, the coupling coordination with high level in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region spreads from the middle area to the south area;the coupling coordination with high level in the Yangtze River Delta spreads from Shanghai, the south area of Suzhou and the north of Zhejiang to the whole area;the coupling coordination with high level in the Pearl River Delta spreads from the middle area to the east and west area.(4)From the aspect of impulse response and variance decomposition, the level of economic competitiveness and land intensive utilization is first order stationary series. And the co-integration test shows that the effect of economic competitiveness on land intensive utilization is more obvious than that of land intensive utilization on economic competitiveness both in the study period and in the future.Specifically speaking, the influence of economic competitiveness on land intensive utilization presents such a rule: the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region ranks first and the Yangtze River Delta ranks last;the influence of land intensive utilization on economic competitiveness presents such a rule: the Yangtze River Delta ranks first and the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region ranks last.
