On The Establishment Of American Jazz News And The Theory Of Social Responsibility

With the development of politics,economy,culture,science and technology,the mass journalism in the United States was becoming prosperous after the United States entered the modern press era.In American history,there have been three larger waves of mass journalism,respectively is the "cheap newspapers" period in the 1830 s,the "yellow journalism" period in the 1890 s,the "jazz journalism" period in the 1920 s.Thus it can be seen that the development of sensational journalism is not unchanging,it has obvious boom and bust periods,and it is the staged product of a period.Through the study on journalism and communication theories,we can find that it is accompanied by the unity of uses and gratifications theory between the news reportand the audiences' demands,the strugglebetween the totalitarianism theory and the liberalism theory,the collision between the liberalism theory and the social responsibility theory and other ideological content.This paper focuses on the development of American mass journalism in the 1920 s,that is thejazz journalismperiod in American history,by searching CNKI,it can be seen that there are many articles about American sensational news,and the main directions include: research on penny newspapers,research on yellow journalism war,research on the achievements of Pulitzer and Hearst press,etc.,but there's no specific research on American jazz journalismin the 1920 s,theonly few papers are the introductory articles for a newspaper such as Daily News in the jazz journalism period.This paper focuses on the study on the relationship between jazz journalism and the evolution of American journalism ethics,the basic idea is a variation of jazz journalism as yellow press,which has polluted the society,caused the society's antipathy and criticism,while the society's reflection and criticism,together with other background factors,leading to the variation of journalism ethics idea,and finally established the social responsibility theory.The fundamental purpose of analyzing the establishment of American jazz journalism and social responsibility theory is the chaos of American yellow tabloids and journalism in the 1920 s,which is similar tothe problems of some chaos in Chinese media such as vulgar and false news in the context of the rise of Chinese new media today,it has positive practical significance on how to improve the sensational news phenomenon in Chinese media,guiding Chinese media to enhance industrial self-discipline,appealing to the authoritative media for guiding public opinion and advocating the media practitioners to fulfill the professional ethics.
