In recent years,as global environment problems become more and more prominent,environmental change not only threatens the survival and development of people,but also becomes an important chess piece for the political,economic and defense game of the world.As one of the most important soft powers of a nation,much attention has been paid to China's environment.The construction of China's environmental image by foreign media can directly affect the stereotype of China by foreigners.It can also affect our politics,economy,culture and diplomacy.This study selected the foreign media with authoritative and international influence--BBC news website as the research object,using the content analysis method,text analysis and critical discourse analysis to study the construction of China's environmental image,construction characteristics and the reasons and the objectivity of the construction,and with the domestic research of media literature were analyzed.This thesis is divided into four chapters.The first chapter is introduction.It includes three parts: topic background,literature review and research scheme.The second chapter is the research process,that is,the content analysis of BBC news website china-related environmental news.The third chapter is study found,mainly summarize the BBC news website construction of China's environmental image,analyzing the construction characteristics and the reasons,and construct the image of it compared with domestic U.S.media literature research conclusion.The fourth chapter selects the typical text for the critical discourse analysis and studies the objectivity of the Chinese environmental image it constructs.Finally,the conclusions and implications are drawn.The following conclusions are drawn from separate and cross-statistical analysis of the trend of the newspaper,the distribution of issues,the tendency of reporting,the source of the report,and the presentation of the report.The overall volume of the newspaper is increasing;Air,water and climate change related issues in the first three;More than half of those reporting negative bias;The proportion of authoritative source is heavier,and the voice of ordinary people in China is taken seriously.There are various forms of presentation,and the most common ones are text and pictures.There are more negative reports on soil and water,and climate change is more balanced.Hyperlinks and video are the largest in air issues.According to above conclusions,the study found that the BBC news website has built up a severe pollution nation in many ways.Include a smog nation,the biggest CO2 emitter,a model of clean energy,a focus and victim of climate change as typical images.These typical environmental images are characterized by multiple modes,labeling and stigmatization,economic framework and international environmental justice.The reasons for these characteristics can be explained from the perspectives of news production,society and so on.In order to further study the objective of the construction of China's environmental image,it analyzes the lexical selection,passive and nominalization,source and quotation analysis of typical texts for the critical discourse analysis.The final research conclusion: besides the construction of China's environmental image,summarizes the construction characteristics and the reasons,the study found that the BBC and the New York times on the different position of international problem highlights the differences between media properties,also reflects the different ethical values.The BBC's reports show that it's not entirely objective and impartial.Through a comprehensive review and study of the environmental news related to China on the BBC news website,the paper gives some suggestions on external communication,environmental news production and public media literacy.
