| A single disciplinary-based solution can hardly resolve problems in the era of integrated development.As for the issue on how the chemistry knowledge effectively integrates with other disciplines under the system of instructional program to help students build a coherent understanding about scientific knowledge,the Seven Crosscutting Concepts explicitly described in the US Next Generation Science Standards(NGSS)inspire enlighten China’s teaching circumstance."Energy",for example,is explained differently under different course backgrounds."Energy" is explained in the Crosscutting Concept "Energy and Matter" from the cross-disciplinary perspective to deepen students’ comprehensive understanding on energy energy-related issues.The mainstream high school chemistry textbooks in the United States,the United Kingdom,Australia,and Singapore are studied in this paper.First of all,the system structure and content setting of the four versions of foreign chemistry textbooks are studied in a macro manner.Then,the training requirements of the Crosscutting Concept "Energy and Matter" for students in Grades 9-12 are concluded after summarization from NGSS,and the concept system of the Crosscutting Concept "Energy and Matter" is sorted out for analysis and used as key criteria of the "Energy and Matter" analysis.The core of this paper lies in the analysis on the distribution of foreign textbook contents,cross-disciplinary perspective to the situations,experiments,exercises,columns and illustrations in the textbooks from the four domains of Physical Science,Life Science,Earth and Space Science,and Engineering Design,and selection of typical cases for research under the topic of "Energy and Matter".Finally,this paper draws the conclusion and puts forward enlightenment and suggestions.Studies have shown that the Crosscutting Concepts are a way of thinking that integrates the characteristics of such subjects as physics,chemistry,biology,and engineering practices.Even though energy is interpreted differently by different disciplines,they all reflect the flows,cycles and conservation of "Energy and Matter".Although the four textbooks arrange and displays the contents of "Energy and Matter" differently,but the core of the value is to break the disciplinary barriers,form the shared view of Energy and Matter,and cultivate students’ scientific ideas and comprehensive quality. |
