"Geometric intuition" is one of the three new core concepts in the "compulsory education mathematics curriculum standard(2011 Edition)".Geometric intuition is the requirement of mathematics education in the twenty-first Century.Having the abilities of geometric intuition is not only beneficial to make the abstract math knowledge visualization and intuition,but also conducive for students to understand mathematical knowledge deeply.With the help of geometric intuition,not only students' creative abilities can be trained,but also the essence of mathematics can be revealed,what can help students form a scientific world outlook and methodology.This research mainly investigates the development of geometric intuition ability of students in grade four,five and six through questionnaires.It also examines the understandings and values in geometric intuition of mathematics teachers in primary school,as well as the applications of geometric intuition in primary school mathematics classroom.This research conducted a questionnaire survey on 597 students in second studying period.Some students were selected randomly for interviews and the following conclusions were drawn:students did not form a good sense and abilities of geometric intuition.With the increase of grade,students' abilities of geometric intuition has been improved and there is no significant difference between boys and girls in the same grade.Meanwhile a questionnaire survey was conducted among 225 mathematics teachers in our school.The conclusions are as follows:Mathematics teachers in our school have realized the importance of geometric intuition and tried to teach it with the help of geometric intuition,but most of them do not understand the connotation of geometric intuition,nor do they study how to cultivate students' abilities of geometric intuition.There are some difficulties in using geometric intuition in teaching.Based on studying related theory,analyzing the results of the survey and combining with teaching practice,the author summarizes the strategies which can cultivate students'geometric intuition:Emphasis should be laid on observing ability,accumulating operational experience and strengthening the cultivation of space concept.Using graphics to help students understand concepts,operational rules and quantitative relations,and to develop their application consciousness of geometric intuition.Strengthening drawing training and focusing on the conversion of language and graphics to cultivate students'abilities of using graphics to describe problems.Expanding the application scope of geometric intuition appropriately and let students learn to construct graphics to solve practical problems.Training students' abilities of using graphics to think,finally students'level of geometric intuition can be improved.
