Emergency trauma patients, who may be haunted by negative emotions such as anxiety and depression after traumatic experiences, are unable to cope with such emotions. If intervention is absent, pathological symptoms are likely to occur. An experimental approach is adopted to explore whether anxiety and depression could be alleviated through solution-focused brief therapy(SFBT).Firstly, emergency trauma patients were randomized into an experimental group and a control group, who then would receive the pretest of hospital anxiety and depression scale(HADS).Of the two groups,a SFBT individual interview, which was consisted of a dialogue phase,a break phase and a positive feedback phase, was conducted only on the experimental group.Secondly, both groups had the posttest of HADS.Finally,SPSS 18.0 was employed to compare the results of the pretest and the post-test between and within the two groups. The results are as follows:Firstly, significant differences exist in the pretest and post-test of HAD-A in the experimental group,in which the post-test met the criteria. The anxiety score of the experimental group has witnessed a marked decrease after the intervention of SFBT.Secondly, differences are also significant in the pretest and post-test of HADD in the experimental group,in which the post-test met the criteria, too. The anxiety score of the experimental group also experienced a dramatic drop as a result of the intervention of SFBT.It is,therefore, concluded that SFBT is effective in relieving anxiety and depression in emergency trauma patients. In view of the above findings, three recommendations are proposed: targeted programs of SFBT can be rolled out for emergency trauma patients. The SFBT treatment concept should be vigorously popularized.Medical social workers should be trained to better serve emergency trauma patients with SFBT.
