Since the reform and opening-up in 1978,China's politics,economy and culture have made great progress,significant changes have taken place in the sports cause and public's sports cognition.The public was once angry with Li Ning's performance because of his mistakes in Olympic Games,and then in 2008,the public had a love-hate relationship with Liu Xiang because of his Olympic withdrawal,but recently in the PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games,the public showed tolerance even though Chinese delegation frequently made mistakes and fouls,and finally only achieved one gold,six silvers and two bronzes.It reflects that the public is no longer care about the amount of gold medals,but pay more attention to athletes themselves and what they can get from sports.The main factor of people's participation in sports is their acceptance of sports,and whether they accept sports or not is depends on people's perception of sports.Improving the public's sports cognition can not only promote the opening up of China sports and the reform of sports system,but also can promote the change of industrial structure and the development of the tertiary industry.This article uses cognitive theory as the theoretical framework,and takes the sports reports of People's Daily from 1978 to 1992,the holding of various sports events in China from 1992 to 2008 and the sports consumption situation from 2008 till now as the research objects.This article uses the methods of literature,logic analysis and case analysis to research the evolution of the public's sports cognition and different social and cultural factors.So as to have a clearer understanding of Chinese sports development,to explore the development direction of the public's sports cognition,and to draw the following conclusions:1.From 1978 to 1992,the media and society's guidance of competitive sport resulted in deviation of the public's cognition of sport which made sport became a tool of politic.2.From 1992 to 2008,with the promulgation of national policies and documents on sports,the holding of various domestic and international sports events in China,the improvement of sports infrastructure and the completion of basic sports services in various places,the public's sports cognition has changed significantly,the public's participation in sports has increased significantly,and the public's sports cognition has developed rapidly.3.Since 2008,the successful hosting of the 29 th Beijing Olympic Games has opened a new era of Chinese sports,and the public sports awareness has shown a pluralistic and healthy development trend.The value and significance of sports have been highlighted,the participation of the public in sports has been further strengthened,the consumption of sports has increased significantly,and sports has become an important part of social life.Finally,this thesis explores the strategies to enhance the public's sports cognition from five dimensions.including the function of the science of the media,the market and the government,the construction of the sports atmosphere and the exchange and consultation of the sports values of the East and the West.
