| Language is not only the tool of thinking,but also the main way people communicate.Early childhood is the most sensitive and critical period of language learning,and the ability of children to use language is mainly reflected in the narrative process.It has been a long time that the research on children’s narrative ability attracts much attention.The capability of children’s narrative ability will affect the development of cognitive,reading,writing,language and so on.In this study,taking into account the differences between Chinese and Western children’s life experience,children may not accurately understand the story information,and directly tell the story may cause language has a relatively low level,resulting in the results is not accurate,so wordless picture books were used as measuring tools,and the way to retell story to survey the narrative ability will be used.In order to explore the effect of children’s age,gender and parents’ educational level and occupation on children’s narrative skills,130 children were selected as the research object from three kindergartens in Nanjing city.The method of retelling story was used to survey 3-6 years old children narrative ability development in four aspects of the vocabulary,sentence structure,rule of telling story and story grammar.The SPSS21.0 statistical software was used to process the experimental data,and the results show that:(1)In the specific items of children’s narrative ability,the location,second and above verbs and story grammar,the average score are the highest.Children’s development in story grammar is superior to other terms.(2)There are significant differences between different age children’s narrative ability.The four aspects of narrative ability,including vocabulary,sentence structure,rule of telling story and story grammar,developed with the increase of age.Children’s narrative ability improved with age increasing.(3)Different gender of children in narrative ability does not have significant differentia.In the specific items,girls behaved better than boys in the terms of second and above adjective,joint adverb phrases,and boys behaved better than girls in imperative sentences.(4)It is the mother’s occupation rather than father’s occupation that has great influence on the children’s narrative ability.(5)Parents’ educational background does not have a significant influence on children’s narrative ability.According to the research results above,combined with the existing research,we can understand the reasons for the development of narrative ability of 3-6 year old children,and provide reference and support for the future study on children’s narrative ability. |
