| In the Feudal Society of China, women were always regarded as men’s vassals in the family, and they were taught to follow the principle of "Husband guides wife"since childhood. After the marriage, they were gradually reduced to the tools of servicing upon their husbands, the elders and younger generations. However, with the outbreak of the Opium War,a large number of western missionaries came into China, and while they spread the culture, they also noticed a lot of disadvantages in China——the problem of women. The Western intellectuals who always advocated"human rights equality" and "democracy and freedom" could not accept this, therefore they began to do their part to educate women about the importance of protection of their rights and interests.Under the influence of this situation, the patriotic people who were knowledgeable began to awaken. They took a series of measures in the form of documents and made many contributions to the protection of women’s rights. In the late Qing Dynasty, women’s rights and interests protection documents involved in two main rights:Women’s right to the body and the right to education. The protection of women’s physical rights and interests is mainly through the cooperation between the government and the civil organization. The issue of women’s foot-binding should be prohibited in two ways, both to persuade and to discipline. The best way to protect women’s right to education is setting up girls’ schools to train women talents in different ways,so that what they learn can change the traditional life of women and they can no longer be trapped by the ethic of unequal human rights in the old society. The appearance of this kind of document made more people begin to attach importance to the protection of women’s rights and interests, which was of great value to the enlightenment of women’s thought and the development of feminist movement in late Qing Dynasty. |
