A Study On The Relationship Between Weng And Son In Yuan Zaju

The relationship between father-in-law and son-in-law is very complex in Yuan poetic drama.Except for the relationship between official father-in-law and folk father-in-law with son-in-law,it also involves the relationship between mother-in-law and son-in-law and wife with son-in-law.The relationship between father-in-law and son-in-law in drama not only helps to build the image of male masters,namely,son-in-law in work,but promotes the development of plots,deciding where the story ends.The complexity of that relationship embodies the literati' own fate,indignation and ideals in Yuan dynasty(1271-1368).It also demonstrates that they directly faced ethical issues in society and families and disclosed these problems.This thesis will tease out and research into the relationship between father-in-law and son-in-law in Yuan poetic drama,and it consists of introduction,four chapters in main body and conclusion.Introduction will start from the society and families in Yuan dynasty to discuss the necessity of research the relationship between father-in-law and son-in-law in Yuan poetic drama.The research result related to the thesis will be given a comprehensive review so as to come up with the significance and methods of the research.Chapter one in the main body will tease out the works involving the relationship between father-in-law and son-in-law in Yuan poetic drama,and summarize the types about this relationship.Chapter two will analyze all sorts of manifestations showing the relationship between official father-in-law and folk father-in-law with son-in-law on the basis of organizing works.Chapter three will focus on the effect of this relationship on text composing in Yuan drama.Chapter four will study the ethical issues in society and families reflected by this relationship,drawing a conclusion about the final significance of these problems.The conclusion part will summarize the whole thesis,pointing out that this relationship is the authentic depiction of literati in Yuan dynasty.The performance and advocacy of sound relationships between father-in-law and son-in-law and ethical relationship between husband and wife are also their expectation to realize ideals.The scholar mentality reflected in Yuan drama tends to maintain the return of traditional ethics in order to achieve the return of traditional culture of the Central Plains and adherence to social ethical order.Moreover,in the harmonious and stable relationships and families intertwined by blood and ethics,they can have a solid backup standing in society ruled by alien races.
