A Historical Survey Of The Main Extraterritorial Factors Of The Kashmir Dispute (1947-1965) | | Posted on:2021-02-02 | Degree:Master | Type:Thesis | | Country:China | Candidate:R Tian | Full Text:PDF | | GTID:2435330623472552 | Subject:World History | | Abstract/Summary: | PDF Full Text Request | | After the Cold War reached South Asia,the Kashmir,which was still under the influence of the Commonwealth since the early period of the partition of India,had gradually become an American diplomatic affair after 1951-53.India’s "non-alignment" policy and the needs of the United States to connect the Middle East and the Far East against the Soviet Union prompted the United States to slight India and form an alliance with Pakistan,which has helped India’s approach to the Soviet Union and China to a certain extent.In 1955,Khrushchev announced Soviet unconditional support for India’s position on the Kashmir dispute.The structure of the Cold War was basically formed in Kashmir.In order to prevent India from being too close to the Soviet Union,the United States did not stop assisting India while aligning with Pakistan.After the deterioration of Sino-Indian relations in 1959,the strategic focus of the US began to be bias towards India.During the Sino-Indian border war in 1962,the United States and the Soviet Union increased their military assistance to India.After the failure of the India-Pakistan "joint defense" vision,for its own security,Pakistan then began to adjust its foreign policy.Instead,it established closer diplomatic relations with India’s "enemy" – China.The United States and Britain attempted to take the opportunity to reconcile the Kashmir dispute and India-Pakistan relations.After the failure,the mistrust between India and Pakistan intensified,and eventually inevitably moved to the second Kashmir war.By examining the international dimension of the Kashmir dispute from the partition of India in August 1947 until the second India-Pakistan War,it represents that the dispute’s evolution was determined by international concerns. | | Keywords/Search Tags: | Kashmir Dispute, United States, United Kingdom, Soviet Union, China | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
