Lao She’s classic drama Teahouse has more than 70 characters, which constitutes a unique landscape of citizen life."A big teahouse is a small society".In this small society, all kinds of old people come in droves, performing the tragic and comic life of one person in the background of the times, and reflecting the distinctive characteristics of the times together.Studying the genealogy of the characters in the teahouse in Lao She’s literature can deepen the understanding of the law of Lao She’s characterization, understand the reason why the artistic charm of teahouse lasts for a long time, and explore the artistic value of the characters in teahouse. In this paper,Wang Lifa,Chang Siye and Qin Zhongyi, these three central figures in teahouse,as well as the three groups of figures with some common characteristics, are taken as the research objects.By grasping Lao She’s realistic writing attitude, the author explores the development law of these figures in Lao She’s literary world.Taking the characters in the teahouse as the origin, this paper traces the origin, development and evolution of an individual or group in Lao She’s creation, trying to form a pedigree relationship with the characters in the teahouse as the fulcrum, and enriches the cultural connotation of the figures in the teahouse by combing the pedigree of the characters in the teahouse.Starting from the text, the first chapter of the paper makes a detailed analysis of Wang Lifa,Chang Siye and Qin Zhongyi, and extracts the images with similar family background, life style, life experience and values in Lao She’s works, and then, based on time, connects the development clues of the characters represented by these three characters in Lao She’s literature. The characters in Lao She’s works come from his life experience and the archetype of characters in real life. The small shop manager represented by Wang Lifa, the upright flagman represented by Chang Siye and the ambitious and knowledgeable man represented by Qin Zhongyi have been the objects of his concern since the beginning of Lao She’s creation. In these characters,Lao she either places a gentle examination,a keen hope,or a sigh of regret, which makes them have a rich and complex connotation of human nature. The second chapter of the thesis mainly analyzes and grasps the image of the common people at the bottom of the teahouse.Lao She was born in the poor class of Beijing and grew up in the courtyard of the Hutong. The image of the common people in teahouse is exactly based on the urban poor class to which he was born. The special living environment of the courtyard enables Lao She to contact all kinds of people at the bottom of the cityfrom childhood. The three teachings and the five elements and eight works became the archetype of his writing. All kinds of common people in teahouse, together with the common people in Lao She’s literature, constitute the most unique corner of the figure corridor in the history of modern Chinese literature. As a realist writer,Lao She’s rich life experience and emotional accumulation all play an important role in his creation concept and attitude, and then affect his characterization in teahouse.By presenting three cross-sections of the old times,Lao She has made a detailed recollection and profound reflection on these old characters rooted in his life stream, and reposed his life’s worries and love, sadness and songs. Therefore,it is of great significance to study the summing up significance of the old characters in the teahouse in Lao She’s literary world,so as to fully observe Lao She’s literary creation.
