Achievement Oriented: Developing Positive Academic Identities For Girl Students At An Urban School English-Chinese Translation Practice Report

At present,scholars in China have more research on educational topics,but little research on the cultivation of female students' academic identity.They often focus on graduate students or overseas students rather than girl students.In this context,this translation report consists of five parts: task description,pre-translation preparation,translation implementation,case analysis and summary.The source text "Achievement Oriented: Developing Positive Academic identities for Girl Students at an Urban School",introduces the development of positive academic identities and non-cognitive skills of girl students in Ghana.The source text is informative text.The author summarized some translation strategies after analyzing the textual characteristics and translation difficulties.The case analysis mainly analyzes the conversion of word meaning and emotion,nominalization structure,translation of dashes and how guided object clauses.Four translation methods are proposed for the conversion of word meanings and emotions.Derogatory words may transform into complimentary words;complimentary words may transform into derogatory words;complimentary words may transform into neutral words;neutral words may transform into complimentary.According to the nominalization structure,three translation methods for translating the nominalization structure into verbs or verb-object relations or into independent clauses are proposed;for translation of dashes,three translation methods are proposed: retaining dashes,converting dashes,and deleting dashes;the translation methods proposed for how guided object clauses are sub-translation and inversion.The author hopes that this translation practice report will provide some reference for translation of word meaning and emotion,nominalization structure,dash and object clause translation.
