The Dream Of Science

In the context of post-modernity,literary studies are gradually replaced by cultural studies.As a discipline,the boundaries of literature are constantly being broken,which leads to the imbalance of the orientation of literary science and the ambiguity of its connotation of inherent Scientificalness.Moreover,the long-standing one-sided understanding of "science" has caused people to confront "literature" and"science" conceptually.However,contrary to the difficult situation of literary science at the theoretical level,in the realistic modern university education system,literary science is still very suitable for practic.These facts show that Scientificalness’s connotation of literary science urgently needs to be reflected and reconstructed."Literary Science" means studying all literary phenomena,activities and laws of literature to form a systematic knowledge system.In a broad sense,it is basically synonymous with literary studies,Literature,literary theory and literary criticism.In a narrow sense,"Literary Science" mainly refers to the embodiment of literary knowledge production mechanism and research paradigm in the context of modernity,and it is the product of modern academic research system.In this paper,the connotation of literary science is mainly discussed at its narrow level.The generation of literary science originates from the resultant force of two factors.One is the context of modernity promotes the generation of modern paradigm of literary theory from the outside.And the other one is that it takes place within the literary research from the maturity of modern literary concepts to the generation of modern literary research.The basic connotation of literary science is obtained through the expression of scientificalness and the process of scientization itself.The scientificalness of literary science is manifested in the research object,research method and research standard.The scientization’s process of literary science evidences the discussion of literary science in each period from the perspective of diachronicity.Western formalism,represented mainly by Russian formalism,Anglo-American new criticism and structuralism,the most prominent concept of its literary theory system is the pursuit of literary scientization.Formalism literary science theory is mainly embodied in three aspects.First,making a breakthrough and perfect in the research object,criticism standard and criticism method;Second,the application of formal thinking based on positivism principle;Third,the intervention of linguistic research perspective.The most outstanding contribution of formalistic literary science theory is that they have used the perspective of linguistics,thus find the objective basis of literary sudties——the work itself and its language form,which has greatly reversed the ideas and methods of literary sudties.However,there are three limitations in formalism literary science.First,it originates from the internal defects of research object,criticism standard and criticism method;Second,the negative influence of formal thinking of scientism tendency;Third,the problem of applicability of linguistic perspective.These deficiencies make the scientificalness’s expression of formalism literary science theory incomplete,so its scientificalness is one-sided.In the post-modern context,with the end of formalism,especially structuralism,post-structuralism and deconstruction emerged.From this transition,we can also find the reason why the scientific dream of formalism is broken.It must be pointed out that,the critical course from the broken dream of science to the pleasure of language games,couldn’t show that the post-modern discourse position constitutes the final conclusion of criticizing formalism literary science theory.For literary studies,how to construct the scientificalness of literary science is the first key point.Only by adhering to the perspective of open,inclusive and pluralistic historical development,and insisting on the parallel of theoretical innovation and practical test,can we tend to the relative truth of the scientificalness of literary science.Therefore,we can not judge the value of dream of formalism literary science theory by right or wrong,but criticize,reflect and draw lessons from it and even all literary theories,so as to perfect the scientific connotation of literary science.The structure of this paper is as follows:foreword,questions and research focus raised;the second chapter,the basic connotation of literary science;the third chapter,the concrete embodiment of formalism literature science theory;the fourth chapter,criticizing the dream of formalism literary science theory;finally,making the summary.
