The Guide to Kuan Hua is one of the foreign Chinese textbooks in the late Qing dynasty.It was compiled by Japanese,Wu Qitai and Zheng Yongbang,who were stationed in Beijing legation at that time.The Guide to Kuan Hua adopts the popular conversational teaching materials to vividly represents the oral appearance of Beijing dialect.At present,there are few vocabulary research results on The Guide to Kuan Hua,and they are limited to the interpretation of individual words.This paper,from the perspective of synchronic and diachronic,makes a systematic study of the two-syllable vocabulary in The Guide to Kuan Hua,in order to contribute to the study of modern Chinese vocabulary research.This paper is divided into seven chapters:The first chapter is introduction,which frames the general situation about The Guide to Kuan Hua,literature review,research contents and method.The second chapter elaborates on the research value to the vocabulary research of The Guide to Kuan Hua from two aspects: Chinese philology and teaching Chinese as a foreign languge.The third chapter contributes to the diachronic study of the vocabulary in The Guide to Kuan Hua,containing historical origin and development.The forth chapter contributes to the synchronic study of the vocabulary in The Guide to Kuan Hua,and mainly investigates the social usage for the vocabulary.The fifth chapter applies “round target shape structural” theory of professor Yu Liming in Si Chuan University and analyzes lexical system of The Guide to Kuan Hua,which is segmented into four layers: base layer,commonly used layer,local layer,and edge layer.The sixth chapter: taking the Great Chinese Dictionary as main reference,we roundly collect and organize neologisms and new meanings of The Guide to Kuan Hua,and explain some difficult neologism,aiming at excavating lexical significance for The Guide to Kuan Hua and providing the basis to dictionary compliation and revision.The last part is the conclusion of the whole paper.
