The “rotation verb” is a pretty significant component of Chinese verb system. In this thesis, semantics, pragmatics and cognitive linguistics are used in the study of Chinese rotation verb. Before the specific research, the meaning of “rotation” is redefined according to the dictionary definition of “rotation” and the semantic characteristics of “rotation”,so as to find out all the standard Chinese verbs with rotating character and take them as the objects of study.Firstly, those verbs are divided into the path class, the action class and the abstract class according to the reality of the trajectory of them.Based on the semantics, the semantic schema of the path class and the action class is generalized.Meanwhile, according to the variables in the schema, the two major categories of rotation verbs are respectively classified and enumerated one by one.Secondly, all the verbs of the abstract class are enumerated and the metaphor mechanism behind them is explained. Finally, combined with the teaching of Chinese as a foreign language, corresponding opinions are given on the teaching principles and teaching methods of Chinese rotation verbs.
