Investigation And Research On The Empathy Level Of Volunteer Chinese Teachers

Empathy is the ability to vicariously experience and to understand the emotion of other people in the way of self-other distinction.Empathy plays a vital role in Chinese teaching in the international context.The study used literature research method to tease out the definition of empathy and measuring method for empathy;used questionnaire method to assess the empathy level among 53 Volunteer Chinese Teachers served in different countries;used naturalistic observation method to investigate Volunteer Chinese Teachers who were served as Volunteer Chinese Teacher in 2 public schools of Sydney.The results are as follows:the empathy score of Volunteer Chinese Teachers is relatively high as a whole,the score of empathic concern is the highest,followed by fantasy,and perspective taking and personal distress are 3rd and 4th;empathy level of female Volunteer Chinese Teacher is higher than male,but not significant;empathy level for Volunteer Chinese Teacher with 0-15 students in a class is significantly higher than those whose with 31-50 students in a class;in actual teaching context,Volunteer Chinese Teachers seldomly represent the actions related with empathy,few or no empathy.According to the results of this research,the present research concludes or proposes some suggestions that are used to improve empathy level and emotional intelligence on the basis of related theory.It includes:consider the language of love as the starting point for empathy;empathic positive listening;reduce adverse operate for empathy;improve the ability of literacy;improve the ability to capture non-verbal information.The general method for teacher empathy improving and suggestions for Chinese teaching are also be included.
