Mono-no Aware is one of the values of Japanese nationality.Because of the particular geographic environment and religious elements,Japanese nationality has formed a yearning for the fullness of vitality and the deep sadness for the loss of life,and an aesthetie tendency that is sad for the short and fragile life,which has been deeply rooted in the notions of Japanese people.The works of Ninagawa can be divided into three phases:Preparation,Transition and Polyphony,from which we can see the entire process of her transferring from a photographer to a visual designer,and the formation of her style.The works of Ninagawa has a strong sense of freedom and self-positioning.They are also fashionable and extreme.Strongly influenced by Mono-no Aware,the style of Ninagawa is characteristic of using beautiful but fragile things like flowers,goldfish and women to demonstrate the traditional Japanese Mono-no Aware Aesthetics--loneliness,death,chain and destiny.Meanwhile,as member of the lost generation,the particular characteristics of the time are transplanted into her works.In pursuit of natural and true humanity,her works also has a strong sense of criticism and interrogation.The traditional and passive aesthetical experience of Mono-no Aware and Perceiving Mono-no Aware has been enhanced into proactive and subjective revelation of Mono-no Aware.Also,her cross boarder choice and expansion into design works,to some extent,reduced the depths of thoughts in her works,which can be seen as her compromise with the world and the formation of her particular Mono-no Aware aesthetics.By exploring case study and document analysis methods,integrating the characteristic symbols of her photographic works,the paper analyzes her particular expression of Mono-no Aware.The paper also takes her as a case to study her relation of modem art and traditional culture,seeing her embrace for modernity and selection for tradition.We can also in-depth focus on the development and reflection of traditional culture in modem culture regime,think the heritage and promotion of traditional culture,further enhance culture confidence and look for experience for cultural revitalization that we can learn from.
