This thesis emphasize on Japanese theatre director Yukio Ninagawa’s 1980 work Ninagawa Macbeth,and analyze on how the work combined with the local classical theatre tradition turned into famous case of the localization of the Shakespeare’s Theatre.Meanwhlie,starting with this case,by the analysis of attitudes when Japanese theatre artists in the face of the similarities and differences of western theatre and the local classical theatre tradition,such as Kawakami Otojirō,Tsubouchi Shōyō,Osanai Kaoru,Fukuda Tsuneari,will be under research.And try to open the discussion of the localization of the Shakespeare’s theatre in the globalization context.The significance of Ninagawa Macbeth in the history of Japanese modern theatre is manifold.It not only as an exploration of the localization of the Shakespeare’s theatre,but also a possibility for the Japanese classical theatre tradition in modern theatre,and as a way for audiences in the whole world to enjoy the samurai version of Macbeth across the language barrier,which is significant in the context of cultural transitions. |
