Research On Opposite Discourse Markers In Modern Chinese

The object of the study is antagonistic discourse markers in modern Chinese,including Xiangfan(??),Fanguolai(???),Fanguolaishuo(????)and Fanzhi(??).The dissertation study the syntactic distribution,semantic features,pragmatic value,evolutionary process and reason of antagonistic discourse markers.Except for the introduction and the conclusion,it consists of four chapters.The first chapter discusses the definition of the antagonistic discourse markers.It gives clear definition and members of the antagonistic discourse markers which includes Xiangfan(??),Fanguolai(???),Fanguolaishuo(????)and Fanzhi(??).The second chapter introduces the distribution,semantics and contextual features of the antagonistic discourse markers.We've noticed that its position is flexible which appears at the beginning or in the middle of a sentence.According to the different pattern,antagonistic discourse markers can be generally classified into four kinds.Its consists of two pieces in context,and these two parts are opposed in meaning.The third chapter focus on pragmatic value of the antagonistic discourse markers.Based on the corpus analysis,we analyze the pragmatic functions of the antagonistic discourse markers:textual function and interpersonal interaction function.The textual function is composed of the formal coherence and content coherence.The formal coherence includes turn-talking and turn-taking continuation and the content coherence consisted of continuing,switching and pulling back the topic.The interpersonal interaction function includes stressing opposition,marking viewpoint and marking continuation of communication.The forth chapter studies the development process of antagonistic discourse markers.Studies have shown that it comes to maturity in the late Qing dynasty and the early Republic of China.The course of its formation is affected by cognitive metaphor,high frequency usage and subjectivisation.In the conclusion part,it gives a brief introduction of the research content,and points out the deficiencies of the study and also the future trends of the research in this field.
