In the 1960 s,pop art with a strong sense of consumerism prevailed in the United States. In the 1980 s,the trend of pop art spread to the Chinese art circles. The avant-garde artists introduced the art forms with typical characteristics of Western consumerism into China, and combined them with the memory images of specific historical periods in China to form a Chinese-style Pop Art with national characteristics.Andy Warhol and Wang Guangyi are representative artists of Western and Chinese pop art respectively. On the one hand, their art has some similarities. Both of them have accurate control and keen perception of social development and change, and can select social and cultural symbols and images with distinctive features and apply them to their works on the other hand.Although Andy Warhol and Wang Guangyi's art belong to the category of Pop,they also present different artistic features: Andy Warhol takes the popular visual image symbols in the current society as the object of expression, presents his works with the artistic methods adapting to the trend of development, while Wang Guangyi emphasizes more on the image of historical memory which has far-reaching influence on China and the image of western consumer goods which are pouring in.Placing in the same picture is an exploration and experiment of Chinese elite artists in the form of pop art.Through the comparative study of their works,it is found that the difference between Andy Warhol and Wang Guangyi's Pop art lies in the social context, cultural original intention and artist's individual artistic idea.Their art forms are similar to each other, but their works are rooted in their own social and cultural status quo and closely linked with the times, thus showing their different Pop art features.
