Chen Shizeng was one of the Important Representatives in the Art circle of the Republic of China in the Early 20th Century.Scholars cannot ignore him when discussing the history of Fine Arts in Beijing-Tianjin area.So scholars have done many deep researches about Chen and his artistic achievements.These academic achievements have laid the foundation for this paper.As literati of the Republic of China,Chen is not only good at Chinese painting,but also at poetry and prose.Pictures and poems are the externalization of literati intension.There is more complex correlation between pictures and poems.Chen has created many poetic paintings.In these works,Chen created the album of paintings "Shizeng Wrote the Meaning of Baishi's poems" presented a combination of poetry,calligraphy,painting and printing in a relatively complete way.In the albums,Yao Mangfu and Zhou Dalie's poems echo Jiang Kui and Chen's works.I try to take "Shizeng Wrote the Meaning of Baishi's poems" as an example to discuss the painting and diction in Chen's works.First of all,I take the plain language features of the picture in this album of paintings as the entry point.At the beginning of this article,I explore the reasons why Chen once chose "plain" as his technique and Jiang Kui's poems as his motif.I also discussed the way Chen had translated Jiang Baishi's words into visual language.Secondly,through the analysis of the postscripts on the album of paintings,I discussed the characters related to this album,the acceptance of Chen's Album by his friends;I also discuss the Intertextuality among the texts.In addition to "Shizeng Wrote the Meaning of Baishi's poems",I take the cartoons by Chen Shizeng published in Pacific Newspaper as a comparative object,in order to observe the characteristics of Chen's poetic paintings objectively and comprehensively.In short,I interpret "Shizeng Wrote the Meaning of Baishi 's poems" to discuss the relationship among the poetry,painting and postscript in Chen's poetic paintings.
