The "Kung Fu Panda" series is one of the most familiar Hollywood animated films among Chinese audience.Since its first release in 2008,it has created a number of box office records,and has won many technical and artistic awards.The impressive character image of Po and the commercial success of “Kung Fu Panda” brought us another two sequels in the following years.In terms of the situation of Chinese animation industry,phenomenal films like "Kung Fu Panda" are also arising due to the technology and education development.“Big Fish & Begonia” is one of them which was first released in2017.The character design and art style are unique and novel,and got much attention with massive media exposure.It was once known as the upsurge symbol of Chinese animation industry.To explore the behind-the-scenes factors of an experienced animated film is the most meaningful learning process for an animation practitioner.In 2015,Oriental DreamWorks comprehensively launched the production of "Kung Fu Panda 3".During the time of researching and studying in the Oriental DreamWorks,the writer thoroughly understood and learned the production process of the modern film industry.Especially in the design of characters,Hollywood studios normally have a set of customary "development rules".A successful character styling may be presented to the audience after thousands of modifications of 3-4 years.From another aspect,the writer also wants to conclude the character design features of Chinese animations represented by “Big Fish & Begonia”.Through compare and comparison of two western and Chinese animated films,the writer would like to conclude the factors devoting to their success or failure from the aspect of character design,and set the reference for animation practitioners' both theoretical and practicing studies,thereby further helping with Chinese animation industry.
