Narrative Aesthetics Of Dreamworks Animation Films

Animated films in Hollywood play an important role in the animation film industry all over the world.Among them,DreamWorks animated films are welcomed by all countries in the world,especially Chinese audiences,with their rich story themes,unique styling symbols and classic narrative structures.Strong technical advantages of DreamWorks lead the development trend of the world 3D animation industry.Through the longitudinal analysis of36 animated films released by DreamWorks from its founding to 2019,and the detailed interpretation of some of the most representative animated films,this paper systematically summarizes the narrative characteristics of DreamWorks animated films by using the related theories of film narratology and semiotics,trying to uncover the reasons for the success of DreamWorks animated films.The first part is the introduction.It mainly discussed the research background,purpose,significance,research status,research methods and innovations.DreamWorks animation film had made great achievements in the market.However,DreamWorks had experienced early brilliance and now falls into a dilemma.The author tries to divide its development process into five stages according to its film characteristics and achievements.The author finds that there are relatively few studies on film narrative about DreamWorks.So this paper are valuable in academic research and significative in application.The first chapter discusses the narrative theme of DreamWorks animated films.Narrative theme is the basis of the extension of the film text.No matter what type of film there is one or several intentional theme content.The qualities of animated films often depend on stories.Whether the stories are good or not depends on the theme.Throughout the history of animated film in DreamWorks,the narrative theme content interpreted by DreamWorks must be in line with the common pursuit of human beings.It also shows the pursuit of "truth","goodness" and "beauty" in the expression of the narrative theme,while reflecting the aesthetic pursuit of "lofty" and "great".Chapter two analyzes the DreamWorks’ narrative structure through the perspective of structuralism,and collates the optimized linear structure from two aspects in diachronism and synchronicity.Chapter three is highlighting its post-modern narrative style through the analysis about the fragmented narrative perspective,parody narrative text,scalable narrative rhythm and mixednarrative elements,based on the longitudinal analysis of DreamWorks’ overall animated film works.Chapter four analyses the problems of excessive spoofing and childish immaturity in DreamWorks animated films.About the fifth Chapter,we should observe and ponder the current situation of the domestic animation film’s narrative and the shortcomings in marketing.we can learn the experience about the DreamWorks animated films’ advantages.We are supposed to "extract the essence and discard the dross".And we should explore the way of the successful development of the film production abroad.This paper discusses the practical significance of DreamWorks animation film research from a realistic point of view.To sum up,the main content of this paper is to study the narrative characteristics of DreamWorks animated films.The purpose is to provide reference for domestic animation,especially in improving box office,which is also the value of this paper.
