Sergei Sergeyevich Prokofiev(1891-1953)was a great Soviet composer and pianist in the 20 th century.His music,with bold innovations on the basis of classical tradition,has had a profound influence in the later ages.His piano sonatas No.6 to 8,composed in 1939-1944 during World War II,have been referred to as War Sonatas for revealing different scenes in the war and expressing the cruelty of war as well as people's longing for peace and happiness.With Prokofiev's Piano Sonata No.7 in B-flat Major as its research object,this paper aims to analyze the characteristics of music elements in this piece thoroughly and put forward a well-grounded way of performance as interpretation on this basis.The paper is divided into 3 chapters.Chapter 1 is the introduction,mainly introducing the background and significance of this research,including the creation background and the general characteristics of this piano piece,as well as a literature review of researches with the same object home and abroad.Chapter 2 is the musical analysis of this piece itself,with an in-depth study from the aspects of musical form,harmony,texture,meter,rhythm and thematic images,especially classified all the themes into dynamic,confused and sorrowful themes based on their images then investigated respectively.The theory of Schenkerian Graphic Analysis is used in this chapter,and an interpretation of speed,dynamics and expression terms on the staff for a more detailed investigation.Chapter 3,based on the analysis in the previous chapter,explores the way of performance as interpretation that corresponds to the characteristics of music elements and that can better interpret the connotations of this piece in a convincing way.The last part of the paper is a summary of the music characteristics of this piano piece and the corresponding way of performance as interpretation.
