| The United States Arctic region is rich in mineral resources,biological resources,and shipping value.After entering the 21 st century,the strategic significance of US military security in the Arctic region has become increasingly prominent.In the middle of the 19 th century,after the United States purchased Alaska,it did not immediately carry out large-scale economic development and implement effective administrative management.At the end of the 19 th century,the main activities carried out by the United States in Alaska and surrounding waters was to seek the Northwest Sea Passage and mineral resources exploration.After entering thirty years of the 20 th century,scientific investigations in the Arctic region gradually deepened.The US government began to build military facilities in Alaska and gradually expanded the scale of mineral exploration.In the 1970 s and 1980 s,the United States formulated a national Arctic policy.Specific measures included exploration of Arctic mineral resources,development of the Northwest Passage,and management of Arctic biological resources.While the development of the US Arctic region has achieved success,a series of problems have gradually emerged and become more complex,including the dispute between the United States and Canada over the boundary of the Beaufort Sea and the sovereignty of the Northwest Passage,the fragile ecological environment of the Arctic region,the complexity of Arctic economic development technology,and the problems caused by non-UN maritime convention signatories.Therefore,when solving the Arctic issue,the United States pay attention to international exchanges and cooperation,Focus on the protection of the Arctic environment,and pays attention to technological research and development under extreme climatic conditions,so as to promote the economic development of the American Arctic region. |
