As a famous contemporary Chinese writer,Pai Hsien-yung has endowed his novels with profound Chinese traditional culture connotation by virtue of his profound Chinese classical culture accumulation,which turns out to be an important feature of his novels.This dissertation carries out multi-dimensional interpretation of the influence of A Dream in Red Mansions upon Pai Hsien-yung's novel creation,and it is divided into the following parts.The first part summarizes and analyzes the influence of a dream of red mansions on bai xianyong's novels from the perspective of literary history.The second part explores the influence of a dream of red mansions on bai xianyong's novels from the perspective of writing thoughts.It is divided into three aspects to elaborate,one is the thought of sadness,two is the sense of historical responsibility,three is the philosophical thinking.In terms of spirit of tragedy,both Pai Hsien-yung's novels and A Dream in Red Mansions are based on tragedies,the commonality between which lies in the inevitable conflict between individual's life will and limited living conditions that the ordinary people can't avoid and flee in the process of survival,thereby unfolding the tragedies of life in the ordinary world.In terms of historical enlightenment,Pai Hsien-yung's novels and A Dream in Red Mansions both combine character stories with social history,reflecting the life scenes at the end of a dynasty,depicting complex interpersonal relationships,revealing the fate of the feudal aristocracy,and displaying realistic life tragedies.In terms of philosophical thinking,both Cao Xueqin and Pai Hsien-yung use realistic brushstrokes to interpret the eternal theme of glitz and impermanence of life that is filled with philosophical implication.The third part studies the shaping of the characters and compares the character images created by Pai Hsien-yung with those in A Dream in Red Mansions,so as to discover the artistic projection of the latter to the former.The fourth part expounds and demonstrates the influence of A Dream in Red Mansions on Pai Hsien-yung's novels in artistic creation techniques.A Dream in Red Mansions has left a deep imprint on the style of Pai Hsien-yung's novels.No matter in language expression or artistic creation techniques like image creation,detail description,and environmental description,Pai Hsien-yung's novels show remarkable consistency with A Dream in Red Mansions.
