Overseas Chinese newspapers are important source for studying overseas Chinese.From September 18 to October 18 2017,i collected 1525 letter words for the study of Malaysian Chinese newspapers letter words,using the online newspapers of Bernama and United Daily.Under the guidance of modern Chinese lexicology,sociolinguistics and three plane theories,this paper uses quantitative and qualitative methods,descriptive and explanatory methods,synchronic research to analyze letter words in Malaysian Chinese newspapers.This paper enriches the vocabulary research of overseas Chinese newspapers through the study of letter words in Malaysian Chinese newspapers.In addition to the introduction and conclusion,this paper consists of three chapters.The first chapter: The analysis of word formation and lexical formation of letter words in Malaysian Chinese newspapers.According to the different elements,it can be divided into five categories: abbreviation,citation,hieroglyphic,marking,hybridization and so on.It shows that the number of pure letter words is the largest,and citation has absolute advantages.Chapter two: Semantic,Grammatical and Pragmatic Analysis of Lettered Words in Malaysian Chinese newspapers.Through the analysis of the collected corpus from three aspects of semantics,grammar and pragmatics,it is found that letter words are widely distributed,with the largest proportion of proper-name letter words and abundant semantic connotations;nouns are absolutely dominant,there are phenomena of flexible use of parts of speech and relatively concentrated syntactic functions;it fully reflects the theme,information transmission and conciseness of letter words in Malaysian Chinese newspapers.Pragmatic features of improving efficiency.Chapter three: Problems and suggestions on the use of letter words in Malaysian Chinese newspapers.There are some problems in the use of letter words in Malaysian Chinese newspapers,such as lack of unified pronunciation standards,irregular morphology,ambiguous meaning,abuse,misuse,errors and omission of annotations,etc.
