Reflecting on the modernity crisis from the cultural has become the main research path of contemporary philosophy and social sciences.Eastern European Neo-Marxism is a new field of modern philosophy research.Its representative,Gyorgy Markus,is not only unique in philosophy,but also a man of great achievements in the field of culture.Unlike other broader research methods,Markus regards the Enlightenment Movement as the beginning of modern culture,closely centers on “modern culture” as the core to study cultural issues,establishes a more comprehensive theoretical system of cultural criticism,and presents the genealogy of modern cultural development,the problems that arise and the difficulties faced in the process of development to us one by one.On the premise of reviewing the background and theoretical origin of Markus’ s concept of modernity culture,this paper sums up the general framework of Markus’ concept of culture,analyses its constitution and essential characteristics,and tries to conclude the critical tension,theoretical uniqueness and its significance to contemporary society.On the basis of Marxist cultural theory,around the dilemma and tension of high culture,Markus tries to solve the ambiguity,richness and complexity of cultural concepts,especially those of high culture.Therefore,the study of Markus’ s concept of culture is of great theoretical and practical significance for seeking solutions to the cultural crisis the world faced today and the exploration of building a socialist harmonious society in China,and for finding solutions to cultural problems.
