Awaken National Consciousness And Cultivate Modern Citizens

Since the "September 18th Event",the national crisis had become increasingly serious.The majority of the population were still ignorant and backward.It has become the focus of attention from all walks of life to build up the consciousness of the Chinese nation community and save the nation from extinction in the War of Resistance Against Japan.On the battlefield of ideological enlightenment and mobilization,the major progressive newspapers had played a great role in propaganda and agitation.This article took the People’s Weekly,which was founded by the Popular Readings Press in Anti-Japanese War period,as the study object.Through the investigation of the guiding principles,published contents and forms of the People’s Weekly,the author attempted to further explore the writing methods and enlightenment of the newspaper in arousing national consciousness and establishing a modern nation.Based on the popularized writing of the People’s Weekly,this paper was divided into four chapters in addition to the introduction and conclusion.First of all,in the author’s opinion,for the study of People’s Weekly as a special case,it’s necessary to pay special attention to the external ecological environment and internal operation of the publication of the journal,not only conducting a comprehensive and systematic investigation of the literary ecological environment in which the People’s Weekly was born and was surviving,but also making an in-depth and detailed sorting and analysis of the editorial art and the operation and publication of the journal.Specifically,it investigated the background of the times of the People’s Weekly from the perspective of external environment such as politics and culture.Then on this basis’ it discussed in detail the publication of the People’s Weekly.Secondly,this paper made a detailed and objective interpretation of the texts published in the journal from the micro level.Specifically,starting from the themes of"waking up national consciousness "and" cultivating modern people",the paper sorted out and analyzed the People’s Weekly’s construction of the concept of "Chinese national community",the depiction of the invaders and accomplices in the war era,eulogization of the national heroes,and description of the suffering and destiny of the people at the bottom of the society based on the principle of "nation priority" through which to enlighten people with scientific knowledge,and call on the people to improve and save themselves.Finally,this paper studied and analyzed the popularized expression of People’s Weekly.It mainly analyzed the application of new and old literary forms,focusing on the in-depth interpretation and analysis of the form of "putting new wine into old bottles".In addition,it analyzed the success of the People’s Weekly’s using of new literary means such as vernacular poetry,comics and so on.
