In order to understanding and researching the creation techniques of “Time Pieces” for clarinet and piano, this article analyzes the music ontology, taking the main research object which concludes the perspective of music historiography and music analysis.According to the above analysis,it has been found that the composer adopted the four-movement form to create within the structure. The first movement is sonata form, characterized by omitting the connecting part and the tonal delay return;the second, third, and fourth movements all use the ternary form, but with their own characteristics. The second movement adopts symmetrical structure in both exposition and trio, and the third movement adopts a axial symmetric structure. In the fourth movement, due to the clarinet solo section at the beginning and ending of the movement,it reflects principle of rondo form in terms of materials. The themes of the music has a modern style. The composer seeks a variety of methods to create a “modern sense”.The main melody is mainly created by frequent jumps, mode factors,pan-tone techniques, and rhythm means. The development of materials mostly uses traditional techniques, mainly based on extension, patterning and cutting. In terms of harmony, the use of additional chords, quadruple chords, and symphonic chords embodies the pursuit of color acoustics. At the same time,it also reflects the composer's lateral creative thinking, focusing on the horizontal lines of the voice, such as the application of composite chords, continuous sound, parallel and different configuration. In terms of tonality, lateral modulation, longitudinal tonality, artificial scales, and pan-tone techniques have been used.Rhythm and beat are one of the foundations for building music styles. The music employs a variety of techniques to change rhythm and beat to form a unique modern music style.“Time pieces” embodies Muczynski's inheritance and development of neoclassical music, which is one of the masterpieces of his late writing. It can be used as an entry point for understanding the characteristics and style of his mature creation. The creative techniques are worthful of use and taking learning.
