Interpretation Of The Essentials Of Pipa Education From Liu Dehai's "Zhuhe Pian"

Liu Dehai is a famous Chinese lute performer.He has scored great achievements in lute performing,composing and education and devoted his life to explore the skills of lite performing to make breakthroughs and promote the lute culture.He has been diligently striving after the art of lute for his whole life.With a spirit of "laying a foundation in 50s,polishing skills in 60s,pursuing success in 70s and performing on stage for the people with natural kindness in 80s and 90s",Liu has contributed all his time and energy to the lute art.Liu's life is closely bound up with lute.His life can be divided into three stages.He learnt lute playing techniques when he was young,made innovations in lute culture when he was middle-aged and precepted philosophy from the lute art when he is old.His thoughts on lute are rooted in Chinese traditional culture.From the macro view of Chinese traditional philosophy,he improved himself in breaking and creating,and in discarding and selecting,and continuously sublimated the lute art.Liu's works reflect his thoughts.Works such as Chapter for Life(Ren Sheng Pian),Chapter for Countryside(Tian Yuan Pian),Chapter for Religions(Zong Jiao Pian)and Chapter for Local Customs(Xiang TuFeng Qing Pian)reveal his life experience and creative experience in different stages of life.In 1989,Liu summarized his thoughts and understandings of lute into a paper for the first time and published it on Journal of Central Conservatory of Music.This paper is Chapter of Chiseling Rivers(Zao He Pian),which still have influences on today's lute art.In this paper,Liu began with his own experience and talked about various items such as "art history" and "functions",covering multifaceted knowledge in lute including techniques,emotion,aesthetics,education and philosophy with sparkling words.It can be regarded as a first-class work in the theoretical research on the lute art.Inspired by Chapter of Chiseling Rivers,this paper picks three key points,namely,"teaching techniques","keeping balance between the music and emotion" and "being skilled in short works",to discuss lute education,hoping to bring instruction and enlightenment for today's lute education.This paper has four parts.Its introduction part elaborates the main idea and key problems of this paper based on the theme source,value and research contents.Chapter one interprets the theory of "teaching techniques" and discusses the foundation for building new teacher-student relationship in lute education and teachers' role of guider.Chapter two discusses the theory of "keeping balance between the music and emotion"and analyzes its significance and important role in lute performing.Chapter three interprets and explores the theory of "being skilled in short works" and analyzes the relationship between lute performing and works for them to play.Chapter four probes into the development direction of lute education and summarizes personal feelings and experiences on the basis of current lute education and confronting problems.
