Tempera painting is a long-standing and far-reaching painting language in the history of European. It can be traced back to the period of ancient Greece and Egypt and fully developed in the Middle Ages.During the Renaissance, the art of tempera painting reached its peak.Painters of various periods has explored and practiced this kind of painting form continuously, and its unique aesthetic value has drawn very much attention. We are researching the aesthetic features of tempera painting constantly, and finding the origin and evolution of its history, understanding the artistic spirit and aesthetic taste of this painting language, drawing the artistic elements that we need for our contemporary painting, enriching and expanding new possibilities of contemporary painting.Tempera painting has displayed an infinite variety of visual beauty and distinctive humanistic spirit during thousands of years of development and changes.this special artistic aesthetics comes from the transparent technique of classical multilayered masking, that is,the indirect method of painting using transparent and translucent colorsalternately. In my opinion, indirect painting is the quintessence of European classical painting. We should not just learning the traditional European techniques or imitating the form of painting blindly, but we should contrast the value orientation of eastern and western painting aesthetics and combine with our own national arts,in order to construct our contemporary painting language better. The contemporary transformation of the traditional tempera painting requires new entry points and combination points,so it has more significance for the recognition of the aesthetic value of ternpera painting.to reinterpret the indirect painting and its linguistic system and transform its artistic elements into new painting language forms can broaden our artistic thinking and reflect characteristics of the times to make our painting language:more expressive and diverse.
