The Creative Characteristics And Singing Interpretation Of Richard Strauss's "Last Four Songs"

Richard Strauss,German composer and conductor,the last master period of late romantic music.He created a wide range of areas at his whole life,including symphonic poem,opera occupies a large share of the total number of work,in addition to symphonies,concertos and art songs.As a master of his orchestral works,his works were magnificent and full of meaning,have a big amount of fans around the world wide music hall;as an opera master,his work was shock,still being the most classic repertoire;as the inheritor of the the German and Austrian art songs creation in Twentieth century,his works were not only with high quality but also having a great number.They were listed as following Schubert,Schumann,Brahms,Wolf,Mahler,the greatest German art song writers,whose works are essential songs for many international vocal competition,and vocal music artists;and as a conductor,musical activist,Strauss is the founder of the famous Salzburg art festival.It was the wonderful artistic genius that gave the light of European romantic music lasted half a century after Mahler and Wagner and others.This article summarizes and collate the artistic characteristics of Richard Strauss’ s life and art songs,and analyzes the style and characteristics of the music.Then dissect Strauss’ s last four songs in music,including lyrics,harmony,music and so on.At last,through the analysis and comparison of different versions,we explore the processing and application of this work in singing skills,hoping to provide some help and reference for future singing learners.The last four songs,written by Richard Strauss in late 1948,were performed in London at 1950.Although they are short and compact,they are multiple in performance method.This paper aims to get a comprehensive understanding of Richard Strauss’ s unique music creation style and grasp the deep connotation of his works through a comprehensive and systematic study of four songwriting techniques.
