"Four Last Songs"is the last vocal musical work written by Richard Strauss, the German romantic composer. It is not only the most representative work of the composer in his late period, but also one of the most outstanding works in the late romantic period. Together the orchestra and the singer's voice are in perfect harmony and its value ranks high in the musical art world. My article will focus on the research of this song cycle, the"Four Last Songs". I will analyze its background, the musical style, the art of singing and the value in teaching. Exploring the singing style performed by different singers, I'll give my conclusion which is the one that changes the least and keeps the basic musical character and the style of Richard Strauss the best. My article analyzes mainly the composing style and the vocal style and skills found in this piece, also the key points and difficulties of this song cycle. I offer my suggestions in teaching and singing this piece.
