The exploration of “local culture” and the pursuit of “Hong Kong taste” are the major topics in the research of Hong Kong film culture. In recent years particularly,Mad World and Port of Call that were favored by the Hong Kong Film Awards have both become the “local expression” labels of Hong Kong films.“Local culture” has become an indispensable part in the Hong Kong film culture.Similar films from the 1970 s to now are selected in this article as text analysis objects with an aim to discuss the concern and reflection of Hong Kong's “local culture” in the adapted films from tragic homicide cases of Hong Kong and the pursuit of Hong Kong's “local culture” from the perspective of cultural consciousness, which is a reflection of the consciousness of local culture in Hong Kong and the development of its native culture.Studies have shown that since the 1970 s,the adapted films from tragic homicide cases of Hong Kong as a non-mainstream film type in the Hong Kong film category have been involved in the development of local cultural expression, and has constantly stimulated local culture awareness in Hong Kong films.Films of this kind reflects Hong Kong's local culture from three aspects, including story selection, image style, space and character construction, well exhibiting the true society and local culture of Hong Kong.Meanwhile, focusing on the cultural heterogeneity of Hong Kong's local culture and its self-defeatingness,these films not only use gender-related metaphors to criticize Hong Kong's local cultural existence, family influence and social environment for the growth of teenagers in Hong Kong, but also extend the issue of the cultural identity of Hong Kong through the discussion of its law.On this basis,in light of the development of the “local culture” expression of Hong Kong films,we find that Port of Call,a latest adapted film from a tragic homicide case of Hong Kong has been given too much cultural consciousness, which reveals three major problems of“vulgarity”,“cultural isolation” and “unilateral protectionism” in the pursuit of Hong Kong's local culture. Therefore, the author thinks that Hong Kong films need to circumvent these problems, and that Hong Kong films should continue the current nostalgic boom in Hong Kong film production, reflect on the reality actively and take the cultivation of talents as a path to further promote self-consciousness and innovation in Hong Kong's local culture, thus promoting the prosperity of Hong Kong films.
