The essence of freehand brushwork is an art of deepening and revealing life forms to the spirit of life.Traditional freehand flowers and birds paintings are based on the theme of plum flowers,orchids,bamboo and chrysanthemums.There are very few literary artists who use peony as a subject matter.In this sense,the freehand writing of the theme of peony is also the best expression of the essence of freehand spirit.Xu Wei and Wu Changshuo,as the most representative figures in the development history of modern and contemporary freehand flower and bird painting,dared to break through the subject matter restrictions and write down the actual self.They each created a unique peony painting with its own appearance.The unique ink-colored peony created by Xu Wei and the color-colored peony created by Wu Changshuo have given peony a new spiritual connotation and aesthetic characteristics.The aesthetic qualities exhibited in the freehand peony both extend the scope of the subject matter of freehand flowers and birds paintings,and enrich the aesthetic space of the freehand brushwork and bird painting,and are uniquely representative.The aesthetic thoughts of paintings presented in both works are of pioneering significance to the transformation of the style of paintings in their respective eras,and they have a unique contribution to the enrichment of the theory and practice of modern art and aesthetics.This article takes the aesthetic qualities of Xu Wei and Wu Changshuo's freehand peony as the research object.To inherit and innovate Chinese painting,we must first clarify the core of its life and the evolution of its origins.Therefore,this article starts with the background of the formation of both styles of Xu Wei and Wu Changshuo,and combines their peony works to analyze and compare the two aspects of form and aesthetic implication.Gradually,we explore the aesthetic qualities of both freehand peony,and then sum up the influence of their aesthetic concepts and freehand styles on the later flowers and birds.Form is the carrier of all artistic implication,and the form of creation is also derived from the artist's unique aesthetic pursuit.Therefore,this article explores the source of the aesthetic qualities of freehand peony and attempts to understand and dig Xu Wei and Wu Changshuo's inner factors of aesthetic formation of freehand peony.In the generation of aesthetic imagery and implication,Xu Wei and Wu Changshuo used their unique painting language to subtly and vividly incorporate the richness of their aesthetic qualities,and used composition of poetry,calligraphy,painting,and imitation to enrich the aesthetic and implied inner Implications.The analysis also shows that Xu Wei and Wu Changshuo's calligraphy skills and poetry and knowledge have important influence on their aesthetic style.Both of them have inherited the vivid and expressive aesthetic spirit of traditional paintings,and each has its own unique innovation.The fit of personal characteristics with the spirit of the times constitutes a model for the aesthetic form of the expressive peony by Xu Wei and Wu Changshuo.The aesthetic pursuit and freehand spirit presented by the aesthetic qualities of both peony in the freehand brushwork have a strong artistic vitality and rich aesthetic value.Xu Wei and Wu Changshuo's unique aesthetic ideas and creative methods still have important reference significance in contemporary freehand flower and bird painting creation.
