Selecting material is one of the key factors at the beginning of dance production and arrangement,for it serves as the understructure of modeling character and refining the theme of the work.In other words,whether the work is successful or not can,to some extent,depending on the appropriate material.The following steps can be adopted to select the proper material: firstly,accumulating raw material as much as possible is the primary step of selecting material.Accumulation of raw material is a process from quantitative change to qualitative change during dancing production.Secondly,questions must be posed at the beginning,mainly about which materials should be chosen,how to present it,which meaning could be expressed and the subject that the director wants to show.As for choosing materials,it is much important to attach importance to the expression of the director's main ideas.For example,what meaning the director wants to present or what feeling wants to express.It is the “conception”in the works of dancing.If selecting materials is the essential premise of dance production,the “conception”is the core of dance creation.In the whole process of selecting materials,it is necessary to apply into Orchestic thinking.Certainly,the materials must contain may dancing,affect rich and keeping abreast of the times.Relatively speaking,there are many materials to choose for dance creation in the universities.In my opinion,how to select the material to express the director's thought depends on the appropriate material.First,we should do this for the sake of universities;second,we should apply campus life into dance;third,we should deep in the mental emotion of undergraduates.All in all,it can make dance creation significant and can create the excellent dance works.
