This paper studies on Tibetan aristocratic family ICang lo can.Theorigin of Tibetan aristocracy, and the specialty of this social group is thefoundation of Tibetan social development. From this perspective, itsystematically analyze the development of aristocratic family ICang locan, especially the role they played at the time when the fifth DalaiLama Awang Losang Gyantso established Ganden Photrang Regime.Moreover it states the contribution they made in Tibetan history so as tolearn the custom of Tibetan aristocracy and the value of their existenceamong Tibetan history.This paper based on reading abundant of material of family history,literature, local history, and related papers both in Tibetan and Chinese.It uses the methods of Karl Marx's historical materialism and dialectics,combine the theoretical foundation and knowledge of history, sociologyand anthropology etc to analyze Aristocratic family ICang lo canprosperity and declining. It will select some important members of thisaristocratic family, take them as a symbol of this family and clarifyaristocratic family ICang lo can' s historical position and influence.This paper divided into four chapters:The first chapter is an overview of Tibetan aristocratic families at thetime of Ganden Photrang Regime. It is based on the study of previousscholars and traces back the origin and development of Tibetan Aristocratic families and also their changes among Tibetan long history.With the continuous progress and completeness of political and socialsystem of Tubo dynasty that aristocracy had formed a system amongTibetan social and political development. Thus they gradually played animportant role in every aspect of Tibetan society. The state ofdevelopment of Tibetan society and politics never stays in the same,therefore the position of Tibetan aristocracy, and the way of theirexistence were different and also their contribution and influence to thesociety. Furthermore, it will try to make a comparison study betweenTibetan and European aristocracy and find out the differential betweenthem.Generally, the rank of Tibetan aristocracy depends on the quantityand quality of their land or other treasures. And also it depends on thestate of how long they have being aristocracy.According to Tibetan history, when some new aristocrats appearedsome other old aristocrats will disappear. Aristocracy was the leadingfactor among Tibetan political and economical development.The second chapter states that aristocratic family ICang lo can'sprevious name was Pho lha family. In this chapter analyze how theancestors of ICang lo can establish this aristocratic family. It is mainlyabout the background of this aristocratic family and how they strugglefor political life and during the Ganden Photrang Regime. Moreover itshows the basic situation, political and social position of Pho lha naSonam Dorjee. The third chapter states the establishment of Aristocratic family ofICang lo can After Reading a lot of Tibetan historical archives andhistorical materials of Qing dynasty, analyze the cause and effect of Pholha na two sons fight for power after his death. When Po La aristocraticfamily face to annihilation that vGyur mod dbang rgyal inherit his fatherPho lha nas position. He changed his family name into ICang lo cansince then they use ICang lo can as their family name till now. It alsoanalyzes the role that ICang lo can family played on the stage of Tibetanhistory from18thcentury to the late19thcentury.The fourth chapter is mainly about Aristocratic family ICang lo canand Sonam Gyalpo. The outstanding life story of ICang lo can SonamGyalpo as a cue to display his political life during Ganden PhotrangRegime and to show his great contribution in protecting unify of wholenation and promoting the development of national culture after peaceliberation of Tibet.This paper used a abundant of Tibetan historical archives aboutofficial and aristocratically rank and position during the time GandenPhotrang Regime and historical materials of Qing dynasty. Last but notleast, I had a chance to interview ICang lo can's offspring who live inLhasa. They offered some historical materials about his family and oldphotos.
