"Memphis"'s Deconstruction Design's Influence And Application Research On Packaging Design

"Memphis" design is an important design representative in the postmodern design trend of the West.Its design style breaks through the tradition and the inherent thinking system of modernism,which has the concept of deconstruction design.Thus,it is of great significance that "Memphis" design helps us to understand the value orientation of design in different periods and judge the development trend of design.This paper takes the "Memphis" design as the research object,and on the basis of studying the design historical facts of "Memphis" design,methods of the literature research,case analysis,comparative analysis and image analysis will be used.Besides,in order to discuss the “Memphis” design with different theoretical perspectives,the entry point of this paper is the deconstruction design concept of "Memphis".As a result,it will show that the critical substance of "Memphis" design is to deconstruct modernism functionality externally and its semantic connotation internally,and then to carry out the new design practice.What’s more,"Memphis" deconstruction design concept will be specifically combined in the field of package design to have a discussion,which fits in with design expression forms of visual,modeling,material,etc.In this way,we can obtain the application characteristics of packaging symbol semantic,pattern disorder,color meaning,modeling intention,and material diversification,so that we can conclude its inspiration and significance towards current thinking and method of design.Most importantly,it shows that the "Memphis" design characterizations used in package design is ultimately to achieve the purpose of the semantic representation of packaging image symbol,which is accorded with the development of the current mass consumption society and meets people’s psychological and emotional needs.On the whole,this paper will facilitate the “Memphis” deconstruction design concept to be applied better in the field of package design,and provide designers in different industries with a broader horizon of design.At the same time,it will make up for the important position of “Memphis” in the design history and provide more theoretical perspectives.Finally,it will continuously enrich and promote the overall design theory and practice.
