Research On The Background And Design Idea Of "Memphis" Design

In 1980 s,the Memphis idea became the most conspicuous design movement,and it became the most important part of the Post modernism design.The rebel of Memphis idea to modernist design most reflects on the breakthrough to the fixed modernist design idea of Memphis and it made a brand new period of design by the all new exoteric design idea which guide the design trends of the 80's.There are five chapters of this thesis.The first chapter introduces the background of the Memphis design,the aim and the meaning to study Memphis design,the research status and methods at home and abroad and so on.The second part tells the social and culture background of Memphis,the international design condition and the development process of aggressive design in Italy.The third part of this thesis analysis the cause of the Memphis design,the traditional design culture of Italy is the cradle of the Memphis idea,the postmodern turn of philosophy,literature and art is the external cause and catalyst of the Memphis idea,Ettore Sottsass as the founder of the Memphis idea,who continued his design by Memphis and tell the core of the Memphis idea-exoteric design idea.The last but one chapter by combining the works of Memphis to analysis its exoteric design idea: the new concept derived from the functions of products,the semantics of products,materials,decoration and the color.The last chapter tries to analysis the influences of Memphis to other countries,the meaning of his design idea,and the forecast based on nowadays condition of Chinese design.
