Research On The Planning And Design Of The Historical And Cultural Blocks Of Jimei School Village Based On Urban Imagery

Jimei School Village is located in the coastal area of Jimei District,Xiamen City,Fujian Province.It is surrounded by the sea on three sides and has a beautiful natural environment.Since modern times,the patriotic overseas Chinese represented by Mr.Tan Kah Kee have invested in the construction of Jimei School Village.There are a large number of cultural and educational buildings in Jimei School Village.These buildings integrate the characteristics of traditional dwellings in southern Fujian and Western architecture,and have unique architectural style.The layout of the landscape buildings in the block conforms to the natural landscape,and the special geographical environment and cultural characteristics combine to form a unique local landscape.For this reason,Jimei School Village was selected as the second batch of historical and cultural blocks in Fujian Province.With the passage of time and the influence of various problems,the overall quality of the historical and cultural blocks in Jimei School Village has declined,and the destruction of material environment and the loss of urban context have become the biggest problems.Therefore,the author attempts to use the method of investigation based on the theory of city image,focusing on the five elements,roads,regions,boundaries,nodes and symbols,of city image in the field investigation.By analysing of the investigation results,the specific problems affecting the characteristics of the neighborhood style are summarized.In view of the current problems found in the research and development,the author carries out design exploration from the aspects of road and lane space environment design,regional architectural design guidance,node landscape upgrading design,boundary space design,landmark planning design and other ancillary facilities planning and design,and obtains a series of protection and renewal strategies,design diagrams and recommended practices.It is hoped that the author’s design research can provide some reference suggestions and opinions for the future control,protection and renewal of the overall style of Jimei School Village’s historical and cultural blocks,and provide positive help for the continuation of the material characteristics and the inheritance of the spiritual connotation of the whole Jimei School Village’s historical and cultural blocks.
