China has entered an aging society for 20 years, and the degree of aging is still deepening. With the aging of the whole country becoming more and more serious, the problem of providing for the aged in rural areas of China is more prominent.Compared with the cities with better economic conditions, the problem of rural pension is more worrying. The hollowing out of the countryside and the empty nesting of the family make the elderly in the countryside unable to get timely care. The family pension model based on intergenerational feedback is facing more and more challenges. In 2001,China began to adjust the layout of rural primary and secondary schools, and a large number of idle rural schools emerged, many of which have undergone ageing adaptation transformation as care facilities for the aged. This not only revitalizes the vitality of rural idle resources, resolves the problem of waste of rural idle school resources, wakes up those homes bearing memories, but also reduces the investment cost, and to a certain extent solves the pressure of the construction of rural elderly care facilities. However, due to the lack of the relevant theory of the aging rehabilitation of rural idle schools, there are many problems in the old-age facilities after the transformation,so the research on the aging rehabilitation of rural idle schools is also imminent.Taking Henan Province as an example, this paper studies the aging of rural idle schools, trying to provide reference for the aging transformation of rural idle schools from the perspective of architecture. The article is divided into three parts. The first part is the current situation research and questionnaire survey.Through the study of the physiological, psychological and behavioral characteristics of the rural elderly, combined with the survey of the rural residents’ needs for social pension, the characteristics of the rural elderly are summarized.By collecting data and combining with current norms and policies,we can find the fit point between idle schools and pension facilities. The second part sums up the shortcomings of the aging adaptation of rural idle schools through field investigation and analysis of the cases in Jiyuan,Huaxian and Lankao counties. Finally, the paper puts forward the key points of the design strategy for the aged transformation of rural idle schools.
