HVDC technology in China's power grid is used widely, long distance and ultra-long distance high voltage,UHVDC transmission plays an important role in the west-east power transmission. The HVDC additional damping controller play a very important role in suppressing low frequency oscillation. However, the traditional damping controller is less adaptable to the current structure and operation mode.In this paper,a model free adaptive DC additional damping control design is proposed. The main contents of this paper are as follows:Firstly, the model-free adaptive control is constructed, and the superiority and rationality of the model free adaptive controller are analyzed by comparing the traditional control design. Then,it is difficult to choose the optimal value of the model free adaptive controller,so there is the problem of control tracking performance and effect optimization. In this paper,SA-PSO algorithm is proposed to optimize the key parameters of the controller under different working conditions of the DC system.Based on the optimal value, the DC additional damping based on the model free adaptive controller(MFAC)is designed. When the system oscillates, and the model free adaptive controller can keep self-adaptability under different operating conditions of the system. Finally, the simulation results show that optimized design of model free adaptive DC additional damping controller can adapt to the system change and improve the low-frequency oscillation of the AC and DC system under different conditions. The effect is remarkable.
