Research On David Pepper's Ecological Socialism Thought And Its Enlightenment To China

The global economy and the level of science and technology are developing at a high speed,bringing a high degree of material and spiritual civilization to human beings,which has significantly improved people’s living standards.However,behind this comfortable life,there is an increasingly serious ecological crisis.Ecological issues have become a hot issue,and at the same time,research on ecological socialism is even more important.The purpose of this paper is to study David Pepper’s ecological socialism thought,one of the representatives of ecological socialism,and its enlightenment to China.Pepper was a professor of geography at Oxford Brooke University in the United Kingdom.Because of his professional and intuitive understanding of the ecological environment,he proposed a profound and practical reform plan for the ecological problems of capitalist society.After analyzing the contradictions of capitalist society,Pepper concluded that the root of the ecological crisis lies in the production mode of capitalism.Based on this,he proposed a social change program--using socialism to replace capitalism.At the same time,Pepper also outlined the blueprint for the future development of ecological socialism.By criticizing technocentrism and ecocentrism,Pepper proposed new anthropocentrism.Pepper’s thought has its superiority,which not only enriches the ecological thought of Marxism,but also has certain reference significance and enlightenment for the construction of Chinese socialist ecological civilization.But because of the utopia color of his thoughts and Pepper’s own fantasies about capitalism,his theory still has limitations.In a strict sense,there is still a certain gap between Pepper’s thought and Marxism.
